Singing is such an inclusive activity that brings people together and facilitating collective expression in song is extremely rewarding. As a director, I focus on making sure all my singers are developing vocal techniques that allow them to sing freely and healthily. I also make sure we are not just singing, but communicating. I invite everyone to think about the words, and together we shape a collective performance with sincere meaning.
For 2023/4, I am delighted to be one of three Associate Choral Leaders at St Martin in the Fields, working both there and at Dunstable Priory to build up their choral foundation. This involves a partnership with the professional choir at St Martins who will support the Priory Choir in their more ambitious projects at the outset.
I also direct direct Women of Note, Choir 2000 and Selwyn Voices. Women of Note are a Cambridge-based acapella group who sing a wide range of unaccompanied music, including lots of my own arrangements. Choir 2000 are a choral society based in Histon, near Cambridge. They sing three concerts per year with the Choir 2000 Chamber Orchestra, performing classics of the choral repertoire, as well as new music and music by under-represented composers. Selwyn Voices is the community choir at Selwyn College, open to students, fellows and staff and forming an important part of the college welfare programme.
