Marginalia Performance

Marginalia is an interdisciplinary performance collective that brings cutting-edge academic research to life in performance, telling stories that have remained hidden on the margins of history. We also shine new light on more familiar material, re-energising well-known repertoire by exploring it from different perspectives.

As well as using research to unlock possibilities for original and engaging performance events, we design projects to make the world of opera and classical theatre more accessible. You can read more about our education work here.

A rose by another name: Juliet and Romeo

Marginalia irreverently combines Shakespeare’s timeless words with Bellini’s intoxicating melodies in a newly devised and fully staged production for two singers and an actor, bringing you star-crossed lovers as never before.

In the Shadow of Notre Dame

Paris, 1200 – A time of almost unparalleled musical vibrancy and ambition… Now only echoes. Marginalia invites you to rewind the clock 800 years and to explore a world that has remained silent for too long.
