Marginalia premier Hansel and Gretel

After the success of A Rose by Another Name: Romeo and Juliet, Marginalia were delighted to be invited to premiere our Hansel and Gretel at JAM on the Marsh in July. The production is sung in my own up-to-date English translation and is woven together with original fairy-narration written with the help of Romeo and Juliet’s Rebecca Hare. Eleanor Burke’s dramatic vision is high-energy, equal parts funny, moving and totally chaotic. We welcome Evie Butcher as a terrifyingly sinister witch and Luke Fitzgerald returns to bring Humperdinck’s Wagnerian score to life on piano. It’s perfect for anyone aged 6+, whether they’ve ever been to an opera before or not.

“Marginalia’s brilliant production of Hansel and Gretel was an absolute highlight of the 2023 JAM on the Marsh festival. Short, sharp and pacey, with a brilliant translation, it was loved by our audience ranging in age from below 10 to over 80. Very few events are this successful across such an age range. Bravo and thank you!”
